El Torito De Chapala is a vibrant Mexican restaurant nestled in the heart of Macon, GA, delivering an authentic taste of Mexico right to your table. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a bright, clean, and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the bold, home-cooked flavors this gem is known for.
The menu showcases a rich variety of traditional Mexican dishes, thoughtfully crafted to satisfy both casual diners and those seeking a deeper culinary experience. Start your meal with their standout street tacos, featuring homemade tortillas filled with options like asada, pastor, chicken, chorizo, tongue, or tripe, all topped with fresh cilantro and onion, priced at a friendly $3.99 each. For those craving a heartier option, the Carne Asada grilled steak, served at $16.99, delivers a tender and flavorful bite that truly captures the essence of Mexican grilling.
Seafood lovers will find delights such as the Mojarra Whole Fried Fish, a fresh tilapia perfectly deep-fried to a crisp golden exterior, accompanied by rice, beans, salad, and tortillas—a complete and satisfying plate at $18.99. Or indulge in the zesty Aguachile, where butterfly shrimp are cured in lime juice and paired with red onions, cucumber, hints of pepper, and creamy avocado for a bright, refreshing, and slightly spicy bite.
The restaurant shines not only through its food but also through warm, attentive service highlighted by customers who praise the quickness and friendliness of the staff. One guest specifically noted the “beautiful tables” and the spotlessly clean environment, making it an excellent choice for group celebrations or casual lunches alike. Whether you're a local or new to Macon, the phrase from a satisfied newcomer rings true: “Everything is AMAZING.”
While many diners rave about the bold, authentic flavors, some have noted that certain dishes could be more generously seasoned, and a few items, like the steak, might lean towards being a bit dry, but overall, El Torito De Chapala offers a genuinely authentic Mexican dining experience far removed from any generic chain. If you’re truly searching for “real Mexican food,” as one enthusiastic visitor emphasized, this restaurant provides an honest and flavorful journey into traditional tastes.
Whether satisfying a craving for street-style tacos, savoring the crunch of fried calamari, or exploring rich seafood options, El Torito De Chapala invites you to step inside and feel at home with every bite.

Food was DELICIOUS! Love that it's a Catholic restaurant! This place would be good for groups of people, celebrations, or a quick lunch / dinner for 1. The tables are beautiful & the restaurant is super clean. Great service. Looking forward to going back.

The steak was too done and dry. The rest of the food was good. A bit pricier than other places with higher quality. The margarita was very weak.

The food was fine, if a little bland. This was my first time trying birria, and going into my meal, I had high expectations. To me, the food felt like it was underseasoned, and salt was needed at a bare minimum. I paid around $17 for 3 birria tacos and a carne asada street taco, which I feel was overpriced for what I got.
